I don't know how to drive a manual. Or, I should say, I didn't up until this morning. You see, no one in my family has a manual transmission car. Very few of my friends or my parent's friends have manual cars. There was only one person we knew who had a manual and had a car my dad didn't mind me learning on. So this morning, I went out for my third manual-tranny lesson. With my rabbi. Yeah, that's right, my rabbi is cooler than your rabbi. So anyways, this was the third time I've done this with him, and only the fourth time I've driven stick. We took his 1st-gen Mazda3 sedan around the neighborhoods for a while, then out onto the main streets. And, in the hour or so of driving, I never stalled. In fact, the only hiccup I had was an overly vigorous start in first that led to a massive FWD burnout. But still, like I said, I never stalled. That, combined with the fact that we went on major streets with actual traffic, made this a big day for me. I can proudly say, for the first time in my life, that I can drive a stick shift with confidence. Have an old Caddy, because what could be more appropriately proud and boastful, and also because Mr. Rolland's sermon has me in a Cadillac mindset.

Nice! I'm by no means a manual supremacist, but I do think that it is a valuable skill to learn. Plus, I doubt that many people get to say that their rabbi taught them to drive a manual.

Nice! And welcome to the club. Great skill to have at your disposal. If I'm not mistaken, "rabbi" translates as "teacher" anyway, doesn't it? Doesn't say *what* they have to teach.

I don't know exactly what it means, but a quick Google search would appear to show you are correct.

FWD burnouts? I'm there! and good job on not stalling! I've been driving stick almost daily for almost a year now, and I still stall some times!

I'm sure I will still stall sometimes, but I managed not to this morning.

well, here's to you at least knowing how to drive stick a bit...

plus, an FWD burnout is the most teenaged thing to do. I aprove!

My other two drive a Prius and an Avalon, and think both myself and the junior rabbi are nuts for driving manuals, or even for caring.
